Questhold privacy policy Draft
Draft. Questhold hasn't been released, and this policy isn't final or in effect yet. It describes how the app is being designed. The final policy will replace this page before the app is available.
Summary
- Questhold keeps your household's information on your devices and in the household owner's iCloud.
- Outerlaced (“we”) runs no servers for the app, has no accounts and receives none of your data.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party code in the app.
- Children are only asked for a nickname and an emoji.
- You can review, change or delete everything from inside the app.
What the app stores and where
Questhold stores the information your household puts into it:
- the household's name and settings;
- for each member: a display name (we suggest a nickname), whether they're a parent or a child, a colour, an emoji avatar and, optionally, a character class and a PIN for shared devices;
- quests, rewards and other game content that parents create;
- progress: completed quests, experience points, levels, rewards earned and a short history of recent activity.
It's stored in two places:
- On each device that uses the household, so the app works offline.
- In the household owner's iCloud (Apple's CloudKit), and shared through iCloud with the people the owner invites. It counts towards the owner's iCloud storage.
The app doesn't ask for birthdates, photos, location, contacts, email addresses or phone numbers, and has no chat or messaging.
A PIN, if you set one, is stored in a scrambled (hashed) form, not as the PIN itself.
What Outerlaced receives
Nothing. Your household's information never passes through us: we can't see it, and we can't recover it if it's lost. There are no Outerlaced accounts, and the app contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting software.
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may give us crash reports and summary statistics that Apple collects. These don't include your household's information.
If you email us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply to you.
Children
Questhold is made for families, including children under 13. A parent sets up the household and decides who joins it.
- Children enter only a nickname and pick an emoji. Parents write the quests.
- A child doesn't need their own Apple Account or device: they can use a profile on a parent's phone or a shared family iPad.
- There are no ads, no tracking, no chat and no links out of the app in children's screens. Purchases, outside links and settings that change data sit behind a parent check.
- We don't collect personal information from children, and we never sell or share it.
Parents' rights and choices
Because your household's information lives in your own devices and iCloud, you control it directly in the app:
- Review: parents can see everything stored about every member of the household.
- Change or remove: edit a member's details, or remove a member and their records.
- Delete: the household owner can delete the household, which removes it from their iCloud and from every member's device.
- Leave: anyone who joined a household can leave it, which removes it from their devices.
Step-by-step instructions are on the support page. We can't make these changes for you because we have no access to your information, but we're happy to help: email support@outerlaced.com.
Third parties
The only other company involved is Apple:
- iCloud (CloudKit) stores and syncs your household's information.
- The App Store (StoreKit) handles purchases. Apple processes payment; the app only checks, on your device, whether the household upgrade has been bought.
Apple's handling of this is covered by Apple's privacy policy. Questhold uses no other services, software kits or advertising networks.
How long information is kept
Your household's information stays until you delete it. Deleting the app removes the copy on that device; the copy in iCloud stays until the owner deletes the household. Emails to us are kept only as long as needed to help you, and deleted on request.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and its effective date. If a change affects what the app stores or who can see it, we'll also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
